McCarthy noted national trends, saying firearm-related injuries surpassed motor vehicle crashes in 2020 as the leading cause of death among people ages 1–19 and that many of those deaths are firearm suicides. The department will make commemorative patches available at the Police Department for $5; residents are encouraged to wear orange on Friday, June 5.
