Roxbury selectmen review shoreland, First Beach repairs and planning items

The Town of Roxbury Board of Selectmen reviewed a set of planning, shoreland and community-access issues at its July 12 meeting, highlighting the need for further agency coordination and follow-up by town staff.
Selectmen noted several code-enforcement items requiring action from the CEO, including DEP concerns at Sunset Cove, ongoing shoreland work, and a dock on an island that needs review. The minutes record that the CEO should check on possible medical marijuana cultivation and confirm whether a pallet house has the appropriate building permit.
On ordinances and policy, the board said it is attempting to secure Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) approval for the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance; no DEP approval has yet been recorded in the minutes. The board also asked staff to check with MMA about a Planning Board secretary position.
First Beach maintenance and access were raised as community priorities: no-parking signs had been removed and the board noted a need for 10 new signs; erosion has damaged a bale of hay used for stabilization and will need replacement; and there is no good path to the beach, prompting discussion of replacing a wall and adding a ramp to improve access.
Other operational items included marking proposed property lines for a retainer wall and a brief note that COVID-19 is spreading again. The board authorized staff to send a signed Olivewood Energy solar ordinance via email to Dominic Lebel and reviewed the RoxWind scholarship description, making minor edits. The board moved cell-coverage discussion to the next meeting and instructed staff to compile related materials.
The board did not take final regulatory actions in these items during the July 12 meeting but assigned follow-up tasks to staff and set related items for future agendas.
