Nebraska City approves utility equipment purchase and permits for several 2026 events

The Nebraska City Council approved a set of routine operational and event permits Feb. 16, including a purchase recommended by the Board of Public Works and several special designated liquor (SDL) permits and street closures.
On a motion approved by roll call, the council authorized purchase of a Nova 27kV 3-phase reclosure with an SEL 6551RA controller for $38,846.70 as recommended by the BPW. The motion was moved by Mayor Bryan Bequette and seconded by Commissioner Ron Osovski; the minutes record a unanimous yes vote by Commissioners Osovski, Patrick Wehling, Cole Sharp and Mayor Bequette.
The council also approved SDL permits and related street closures for the following events: an SDL for El Portal at the Veterans Memorial Building on March 28, 2026; a street closure and SDL for Backstage Bar, LLC on June 6, 2026 (8th Street from the alley to 1st Corso) with the Veterans Memorial Building as a backup location; an SDL for City Tap House at the Veterans Memorial Building on Aug. 22, 2026; a street closure for the Apple Jamboree on Oct. 10, 2026; and an Art Walk street closure on Oct. 17, 2026. All motions passed as recorded.
Commissioner Osovski moved, and Commissioner Wehling seconded, approval of an SDL for The Keeping Room & Gathering Place for Dec. 12, 2026; Mayor Bequette recused and left the room during that vote. The motion passed with Commissioners Osovski, Wehling and Vice President Cole Sharp voting yes; the minutes list Mayor Bequette as absent for that item.
The minutes also record the council’s receipt of the treasurer’s monthly report showing combined city and utility funds totaling $18,549,674.93 as of Jan. 31, 2026.
