After executive session, council retains lifeguard with performance condition

The Pawnee City Council met in executive session at 8:30 p.m. June 24 to discuss a pool employee's job performance and returned to open session at 8:50 p.m. The employee, lifeguard Aiden Tozer, appeared with his father, David Tozer, and pool manager Terra Blecha.
Following the closed discussion, Council Member Susan Eisenhauer moved to retain Aiden Tozer as a lifeguard; Council Member Vickie Zelenka seconded. The council voted unanimously to retain Tozer and set a condition that if he loses one more performance point he will be terminated. The minutes record the executive-session justification as protecting a person's reputation where public discussion could cause needless injury.
Pool manager Terra Blecha reported the pool passed its state inspection earlier that day, and the meeting also included routine pool staffing items such as an assistant-manager promotion and pay adjustments for lifeguards teaching lessons.
Next steps: the city will continue supervision of lifeguard performance under the condition recorded by council; the personnel action was recorded in the minutes.
