Monmouth — At its May 19 meeting the Monmouth Urban Renewal Agency approved a façade improvement grant of up to $5,000 (matching up to 50% of eligible costs) for a project at 159 Main Street West, the future Lucky Crow restaurant and farm-stand venue.
Planning staff presented the application and estimated eligible exterior improvements — new entry door, exterior lighting, signage and landscaping — with itemized estimates totaling about $4,450 in eligible work. The applicant explained the landscaping plan includes two existing in-ground planters and additional movable planters and trellis planting along the patio; staff noted landscaping has been an eligible façade program element in past grants and recommended approval.
The Urban Renewal Agency approved the grant by roll call. Agency members encouraged continued applications that improve downtown storefronts and noted the program goal of promoting active, attractive streetfronts.
What the grant covers The approved grant covers eligible façade work up to one-half of actual costs, not to exceed $5,000. The agency packet includes photos of the existing storefront, proposed renderings and a property owner permission letter.
Implementation The applicant will complete the work, submit receipts for reimbursement per program guidelines, and coordinate any required permits with the city.
