D.C. arts commission approves bylaws amendment clarifying personnel authority for executive director

The District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities approved a governance amendment clarifying who serves as personnel authority for the executive director.
During the governance committee report, chair Julianne read proposed edits to Article II, Section 1 that replace previous language naming the executive director as the personnel authority. The revised text states that "the commission on the arts and humanities shall serve as the personnel authority for the executive director with supervision and administrative direction exercised by the chairperson... The executive director shall serve as the personnel authority for all other employees of the commission ... except as otherwise provided by law."
The chair placed the amendment for a vote. Multiple commissioners responded in the affirmative during roll call and the chair announced, "It passes."
The governance committee characterized the change as non-substantive and intended to align the bylaws' wording with existing District law and the commission's governance practices. The commission scheduled the governance committee's next meeting for July 9 to review the first draft of the strategic plan.
The amendment will be reflected in the commission's bylaws and circulated to commissioners as the commission proceeds with ongoing governance and strategic-planning work.
