Chisago City adopted its 2026 final property tax levy and budget at the Dec. 9 council meeting, approving Resolutions 25-12-02 and 25-12-03 by unanimous vote.
Finance Director Cassie Gemuenden presented the Truth in Taxation review and said the final levy remains at $4,117,373, producing a 2026 tax rate of 35.628 percent, a 2.71 percent decrease from the prior year. The council discussed balancing city services and long-term planning while limiting taxpayer impact.
Council member Craig Meyer moved to adopt the final levy and budget; Council member Mark Anderson seconded and the motion passed 5-0 (Mayor Jeremy Dresel, Council members Marie Rivers, Mark Anderson, Craig Meyer and Nikki Battles voting aye). Gemuenden said the levy must be certified to the County Auditor by Dec. 29, 2025, to take effect for the 2026 tax year.
The adopted budget and levy set the revenue and spending framework for city services and projects in 2026; council members emphasized fiscal responsibility during discussion. No additional specifics about program-level changes were recorded in the minutes.
The council will proceed with certification to the county and follow statutory timelines for budget implementation and reporting.
