Kewanee council approves consent agenda, payroll and bills; brief procurement questions raised

The Kewanee City Council approved its consent agenda and authorized payroll and payments at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Councilmember Colomer moved to approve the consent agenda (minutes, payroll, staff reports and the Bock Report); Councilmember Komnick seconded and the motion passed 5-0. Payroll was presented for the pay period ending Dec. 14 in the amount of $225,370.18 and for the pay period ending Dec. 28 in the amount of $243,114.36. The council approved payment of bills for Dec. 23 ($194,194.46) on a motion by Councilmember Colomer, seconded by Councilmember Baker, and approved bills presented for Jan. 13 ($1,097,899.99) on a motion by Councilmember Komnick, seconded by Councilmember Faber (all votes 5-0).
During routine bills discussion, Councilmember Faber noted a number of Amazon purchases and asked why items are not purchased locally; staff responded that some specialized items are not available locally and that staff seeks to purchase locally when feasible. Councilmember Colomer asked about an Amazon charge labeled “uniform allowance”; staff said it was for a Police Department uniform item for Police Chief Kijanowski that could not be sourced locally.
