Chisago City Council approves $20,000 from Fund 29 for volunteer recognition and events

Associate Planner Leah Nelson asked the council to approve habitual annual uses of Gambling Fund 29—10% proceeds from charitable gambling administered for city-approved uses—to cover several community events and recognitions in 2025.
Nelson outlined the requested allocations: $2,800 for city volunteer recognition; $12,000 for fireworks at Ki Chi Saga Days; $3,000 for the Children’s Lighting Festival; $1,200 for the fire department volunteer steak fry; and $1,000 for LAPD employee recognition. The total request was $20,000; Nelson said Fund 29 has an adequate balance and that about $65,000 would remain after the expenditures.
Council member Craig Meyer asked whether the Lighting Festival funding was sufficient as attendance grows; staff did not propose a change to the request. Council member Marie Rivers moved to approve the Fund 29 requests; Council member Mark Anderson seconded and the council approved the request with all ayes.
The council’s vote authorized staff to expend Fund 29 for the listed items; no additional restrictions or reporting requirements were specified during the meeting.
