Chisago City OKs $15,319 for fire department gear and readies hires

The Chisago City Council approved on Aug. 26 a Fund 23 request of $15,319.29 to purchase equipment for the fire department’s new tactical rescue truck and Engine 12. Fire Chief Zach Reed told the council the truck is expected to be operational by Oct. 15 and that the requested equipment — a water appliance, 12 helmet lights, thermal imaging cameras and a SEEK thermal bundle — will better equip firefighters for calls.
Council member Craig Meyer moved to approve the Fund 23 request and Council member Mark Anderson seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Chief Reed also reported two potential firefighter candidates are currently undergoing application and background checks and that he will return to council for approval of those hires once vetting is complete.
The approved purchase will be funded from Fund 23 and staff indicated the items are intended to outfit Engine 12 and the new tactical rescue truck. No additional appropriation was requested at the meeting.
