Chisago City to host MnDOT engagement on Karmel Avenue corridor; improvements tentatively in 2035–36

City staff said MnDOT is completing a Karmel Avenue corridor study and invited the city to host an engagement work session now (and possibly another in fall); project improvements are tentatively scheduled for 2035–2036.
Administrator John Pechman told the council June 24 that MnDOT and its consultants have been studying Karmel Avenue east to Taylors Falls and are seeking engagement from communities along the corridor.
Pechman said the study has included online and in-person meetings over the past year and that MnDOT is asking whether the city prefers a work session during the engagement stage, later near final findings, or both. Council members said intersections on Highway 8 between Lindstrom and Chisago City (including the Kwik Trip intersection) are among the most impacted. Council member Craig Meyer and Mayor Jeremy Dresel agreed to schedule a session now and to consider another in the fall; Pechman said he would check second Tuesdays in July and August to set a workshop date.
Pechman described the project timeline, saying the project improvements are tentatively scheduled for 2035'2036. City staff emphasized this is an early engagement opportunity to shape MnDOT's recommendations during the study phase rather than a commitment to immediate construction.
