Chisago City Council approves annexation petition for 27800 Kent Ct.

The Chisago City Council voted June 24 to accept a petition to annex a parcel at 27800 Kent Ct. into the city to allow connection to municipal sewer and water.
Associate Planner Leah Nelson told the council the petition came from Kathleen Everson for approximately one-half acre in Chisago Lakes Township and recommended city staff contact the township clerk and provide a joint orderly annexation agreement for signature by the mayor and administrator. Administrator John Pechman noted recent statutes set out reimbursement procedures to townships when annexations occur.
Council members agreed the annexation made sense because neighboring properties are already within city limits and directed staff to execute the paperwork; the motion to approve the petition was moved by Council member Craig Meyer, seconded by Council member Mark Anderson and passed unanimously.
Staff will send the orderly annexation agreement to State Boundary Adjustments for review; council said it would return the item to the agenda if any changes are required.
