The Montrose City Council approved a hotel and restaurant liquor license on June 16 for Star Cajun Seafood Boil Inc., which plans to operate at a space on the corner of Main and Grand.
City Attorney Chris Dowsy introduced the public hearing and said the application was "in order and fees have been paid." Applicant Essie Cano told council she and her wife Fami have been Montrose residents for about a decade and have run a local Thai restaurant; the pair said they hope to bring a seafood boil concept to town. "We've been running the Chiang Tai cuisine here in town…we've loved it," Essie told the council.
Staff summarized petitions circulated by the applicant: of 100 signatures submitted, 64 were determined valid and in support. No public comment was given during the hearing and council closed the public portion before moving to vote.
A council member moved to approve the license for consumption on the licensed premises; the motion was seconded and passed. Council and staff discussed technical details including the premises map and the reason two unit addresses appeared in the application (associated with a double-unit lease). The city requested owners and managers attend server-safety training and indicated staff would follow up on vendor outreach and license conditions.
The license approval clears the way for Star Cajun Seafood Boil to proceed with local openings and related licensing steps.
