Nebraska City Council approves routine business, accepts parcel sale and donates historic pumper

The Nebraska City Council handled a series of routine actions and ceremonial items at its Feb. 2 meeting.
Mayor Bryan Bequette administered the oath of office to Michael Odom as the new Police Captain. The Council also proclaimed March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month; Mike Scandra received the proclamation. Library Director Donna Kruse delivered the library’s 2025 annual report to the Council.
On business items, the Council accepted an offer to purchase parcel #999556093 for $4,800 after Construction and Facility Manager Marty Stovall explained the request; the motion was moved by Commissioner Joe Chaney and seconded by Commissioner Ron Osovski and passed on a roll call vote. The Council approved donating a 1979 Sutphen pumper truck to the Historical Preservation Society of the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department once two new trucks are in service, with the condition the museum keep the vehicle in running order and available if needed; Jeff Lollman explained that item.
The Council declared 15 computers and monitors surplus for disposal or recycling (Randy Dunster explained the request) and approved allowing EMS/Rescue staff to use the Wildwood apartment for employee callback shifts when available (explained by City Administrator Perry Mader and Paramedic Manager Joe Grubbs). City Administrator Mader also reported that $100,000 of a Growth Fund loan from Waste Container Systems, LLC has been collected from two owners and that collection efforts continue for the remaining balance.
Each of these motions passed on recorded roll call votes with the affirmative votes of Commissioners Osovski, Sharp, Chaney and Mayor Bequette; Commissioner Patrick Wehling was absent. The meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m.
