Port Clinton resident urges faster Taft Street repairs; mayor cites railroad delays

Vickie Ward of 738 Taft Street said she has lived on Taft Street for 48 years and that Special Project Coordinator Doug Nusser told her on April 8, 2026 the planned water-line replacement and road repair would likely occur in summer 2027. Ward said she was told the railroad is "holding up all the work that needs to be completed on the west end of the city," and asked why the railroad affects her street.
Mayor Mike Snider acknowledged the street's poor condition and described a multiyear negotiation with the railroad. He said the city previously had an accepted plan to place new lines beneath Jefferson Street and under the railroad centerline, but the railroad revoked approval after the contact person changed. "We are working the best we can to make this happen," Snider said, and noted the city submitted a second proposal in early February 2026 and is still waiting for a response.
The council record indicates no immediate action was ordered at the April 28 meeting. Ms. Ward urged faster, permanent repairs; the administration indicated that timing depends on railroad approval and coordination with a planned water-line replacement.
Council did not set a specific follow-up or timeline beyond Administration's statements about negotiations and the tentative 2027 repair window.
