Superintendent John Suttie said the district is "deep into building the 2018–2019 RSU 23 budget" and described the coming schedule for review and public engagement. He told the board the administrative team will meet next Wednesday and Thursday to refine proposals and that the budget will be presented to the school board on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
"We're making a lot of great changes at a breakeven cost. I think the public will be happy," Suttie said, adding a public workshop is scheduled for April 10, a regional vote is set for May 15 and the budget referendum is planned for June 13.
Suttie also reported progress on a redesigned district website, noting staffing changes on the vendor side delayed an initial January deadline but that the site will host videos and information for families once complete.
Board Chair David Boudreau and the finance committee told the board the budget is "in great shape," with planned spending aligned to expectations. Boudreau said the committee will continue work on contract details for copiers and present final numbers to the board next month.
Next steps: administrators will complete the internal review before Feb. 27, when the board will receive the proposed 2018–19 budget and schedule further public engagement on Apr. 10.
