Board recommends drafting ordinance to allow PEX piping and remove galvanized iron from Section 6-50

Fox River Grove staff told the Village Board on March 18 they plan to update the plumbing code to permit polyethylene piping (PEX) for in-home water distribution and to remove galvanized iron from the list of permitted materials.
Assistant Administrator Bechler told the Board resident Kyle Platt had previously requested that PEX be listed as an approved internal water-line material because of its lower cost and durability and that staff consulted with B&F Technical Codes, which found PEX to be standard for internal plumbing repairs. As a result, staff proposed amending Section 6-50 of the Village code to include PEX and other listed materials while removing galvanized iron.
Trustee Steve Knar moved and Trustee Melissa Schladt seconded a recommendation that staff prepare an ordinance with the proposed plumbing-code amendments for future Board consideration. A voice vote was unanimous in favor.
Next steps: staff will draft the ordinance language and return it to the Board for formal consideration and vote.
