The Midway City Council on April 21 adopted Ordinance 2026-11, which enacts restrictions on the discharge and use of fireworks within the city.
The ordinance was presented by city attorney Corbin Gordon and accompanied by a map showing where fireworks would be prohibited. Council members and staff said Midway needed to act because of dry conditions and asked that the map be made higher-contrast and more widely posted around the city so residents could easily find restricted areas.
“Midway City needed to be a voice of reason because of the dry conditions,” the council record states as the rationale discussed during the presentation. The council did not receive public comment during the item.
Motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Council Member Andy Garland and seconded by Council Member JC Simonsen. The motion passed with Council Members Garland, Andrew Osborne, Kevin Payne and JC Simonsen voting aye; Council Member Lisa Orme was excused from the meeting. The ordinance is recorded as Ordinance 2026-11 and will be enforced according to the terms set out there and in the accompanying map.
Council members asked staff to improve the map’s legibility and expand its posting at city locations so residents could readily identify no-discharge zones before the summer holiday period.
