South Bloomfield council hears department updates; spring fling budget raised to $700

Village Administrator Joe Allen told the South Bloomfield council on April 6 that the Sycamore Point plat has been signed and site preparation is ready to begin.

Fiscal Officer Alisha Burke reported arrangements for flowers for the village’s spring fling: the flowers have been ordered from Scioto Blooms and the nursery indicated they could donate the plants if ready; if the flowers must be shipped in, the cost would be $12.75 per flat and the check would need to be issued before the next council meeting. Burke also said the independent public accounting firm chosen to conduct the 2024–2025 audit has contacted her and she will circulate a questionnaire for council members to complete.

Police Chief Michael Maynard reviewed department statistics for March, said two new officers are nearly finished with training and the department expects to return to 8‑hour shifts the week of April 19, and reported that on March 31 Lt. Hempstead located a missing person and recovered a stolen vehicle. Chief Maynard said he is awaiting a response from the JAG representative about a potential grant to purchase Panasonic Toughbooks to replace the department’s current mobile data terminals.

Councilmember Amber Murphy said she will distribute a resident movie survey and asked the council to raise the spring fling budget to $700; all council members present agreed. No formal vote amending the budget was recorded in the April 6 minutes; the council’s verbal agreement was noted during the meeting.

Routine business concluded the session: Sean Shaw moved to pay bills (seconded by Lisa McDorman) and the council approved payment by unanimous vote; Lisa McDorman subsequently moved to adjourn and the meeting ended at 6:20 p.m.

The council did not take formal action on the Sycamore Point development, the tornado siren installation timing remains unscheduled, and the JAG grant request for new Toughbooks is pending a response from the grant representative.
