South Bloomfield council approves COLA pay adjustment, adopts emergency credit-card policy

The Village of South Bloomfield Council voted unanimously Feb. 2 to approve a cost-of-living (COLA) pay adjustment and to adopt an emergency amendment to the village credit-card policy.
Amber Murphy moved to approve the second reading of Ordinance 2026-02, the COLA pay adjustment; the motion carried with affirmative votes from Tim Ooten, Nicole Jenkins, Lisa McDorman, Sean Shaw and Amber Murphy. Mayor Aaron Thomas noted that the village cannot round the COLA up or down because the adjustment is set by the Social Security Administration.
Fiscal Officer Alisha Burke introduced Ordinance 2026-03, an amendment to Section 33.03(A)(1) of the village credit-card policy intended to clarify how sales tax on credit-card purchases is handled and how staff should be reimbursed for purchases made on personal cards. Lisa McDorman moved first-reading approval, and the council then voted to waive the second and third readings and adopt the ordinance as an emergency; the motion passed unanimously.
Both ordinances were carried by roll-call votes, with the five voting councilmembers recorded as voting in favor. No nay votes, abstentions or recorded recusals were entered in the meeting minutes.
The council also approved routine business motions including payment of bills during the meeting's closing motions. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
