Residents press board on parks, volunteers and meter installations during public comment

During the April 6 Village of Denton meeting several residents used the public-comment period to raise community projects and questions.

Shay Smith introduced herself to the board as a candidate for the state legislature. Gail Braunsroth announced that the Denton Activities Committee will host a quarter-auction fundraiser on April 18 and said Denton Days is scheduled for June 20. Lona Anderson asked whether the Denton Community Activities Committee (DCAC) could contribute funds toward the outfield warning-track project and supplied playground vendor contact information; she also raised concerns about trash in the park, areas that may need additional grass seed or sod, and weeds in landscaping.

Resident Craig Vanslyke later asked about the timeline for installation of the next remote-read water meters, how many have been installed so far and whether additional meters will be ordered. He also requested updates on prior items discussed at the January 6 meeting — specifically a street dip on Cass Avenue and a tree at the corner of Lancaster and Cass; Ross Blackledge said someone will inspect the tree. The clerk reported that fall 2025 street striping is not wearing well and that the contractor will be contacted. Trustees approved purchasing two refrigerators for the community center from Menards after a motion by Trustee Amanda Fangmeier and a second by Trustee Doug Rosekrans.

The minutes also note the Plant Nebraska volunteer event scheduled for May 12 at 9:30 a.m.; DCAC will bring in dirt for the infield and volunteers were sought for the project.
