Residents raise street-racing concerns; police provide data and fire chief reports Station 84 delay

Residents and public-safety officials focused much of Norwich Township’s June 3 Board of Trustees meeting on traffic enforcement and local emergency services. Several residents described ongoing illegal street racing on Fishinger Road during public comment. Hilliard Police Chief Mike Woods provided an update on calls for service in May to illustrate the department’s workload and the enforcement burden tied to those complaints.

The discussion came amid a separate update from Fire Chief Dave Baird, who told the board that construction of Fire Station 84 is behind schedule because of labor strikes and that the new estimated completion date is mid-July 2025. Chief Baird’s timeline was presented as a staff update rather than an action item; trustees did not take separate formal action on the station’s contract schedule during the meeting.

Vice-Chairman Rick Tidd noted the public comments and led the board through routine business, including motions to authorize purchases and equipment disposals. The trustees recorded unanimous votes on subsequent items. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 PM.
