Board accepts homeowners’ application to replace failing foundation

Elizabeth, one of the new homeowners representing the Short Drive Foundation, told the Planning Board the house they purchased has a failing foundation and that their plan is limited to jacking the house and replacing the foundation within the current footprint. “All we’re looking to do is we really just want to replace the foundation. We don't want to go any further…you’re basically just going to jack it up. That's it,” Elizabeth said.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the deck and shoreline/erosion controls; Elizabeth said contractors are local and licensed, permits and Dig Safe clearance were already obtained, and deposits are down with contractors ready to proceed. The board complimented applicants for preparing contracts and paperwork prior to the meeting and noted staff will place a memorandum in the file documenting the acceptance.
A member moved to accept the application and a second was recorded; the board voted to accept the application and advised the applicants to return with the foundation permit details and any follow-up documentation for staff to file. The board’s acceptance is procedural and does not substitute for final building permits or any required state reviews.
