Visit Dubois County urges ordinance update to comply with House Bill 1210; county attorney to draft changes

Whitney Lubbers, executive director of Visit Dubois County, told the commissioners on June 1 that House Bill 1210 requires counties to update tourism-related ordinances to ensure appropriate city representation and to align with revised tax-structure and governance requirements.
Lubbers outlined a recommended board composition change to meet the statute’s intent: reduce County Commissioners appointments from three to two, maintain one County Council appointment, keep three City of Jasper appointments and add one City of Huntingburg appointment. She noted party-affiliation language was removed from the uniform code but the local board recommended keeping party-affiliation language for appointments.
Commissioners and the County Council will reorganize appointments as needed, and County Attorney Gregory S. Schnarr was asked to draft a new ordinance for consideration at the next meeting so the county can be in compliance by the July 1, 2026 timeline discussed.
