Isanti County Board approves $1.19 million road contract, park electrical work and grant authorizations

The Isanti County Board of Commissioners met June 2 and unanimously approved a series of routine and infrastructure items, including a $1,194,902.06 road construction contract, a $1,000,000 Local Road Improvement Fund grant resolution, park electrical improvements and several administrative contracts and personnel actions.
Commissioner Christensen moved and Commissioner Westerberg seconded approval of Contract No. 2606 with New Look Contracting to perform milling, asphalt pavement, a concrete median, ADA improvements, aggregate surfacing and pavement markings on County State-Aid Highway (CSAH) 5 from TH 65 to CSAH 12 North. The board recorded the contract price at $1,194,902.06; funding was identified as State Aid and Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) grant dollars. The motion carried unanimously.
The board also adopted Resolution No. 26-13-07, authorizing Isanti County to accept a $1,000,000 LRIP grant and to execute a grant agreement consistent with Minnesota Statutes section 174.52. Commissioner Christensen moved the resolution and Commissioner Westerberg seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Park development work was included among the approvals. Commissioner Christensen moved and Commissioner Berg seconded acceptance of a $13,508.07 quote from MinnStar Electric to provide electrical connections, outlets and security lighting at the Springvale County Park picnic shelter and restroom. The project was described as part of Phase I park development and funded by a Parks Legacy Grant; the motion carried unanimously.
The board awarded the County Surveyor contract to KLD Surveyors, with the contract running through Dec. 31, 2026. Commissioner Westerberg moved and Commissioner LaRowe seconded the award; the motion carried unanimously.
On administration and public-safety items, the board approved renewal of an annual Comms Coach subscription for the Isanti County 911 Dispatch Center at $12,500, funded from E911 dollars, and accepted a 2026 State Boat and Water Safety Grant of $6,358. Commissioner Duff moved the Comms Coach renewal and Commissioner Christensen seconded; Commissioner Berg moved acceptance of the boat-safety grant and Commissioner Christensen seconded both motions, which carried unanimously.
The consent agenda included routine personnel actions and permits. The board approved the May 19 meeting minutes; ratified the hire of Tyler Malikowski as a full-time deputy sheriff effective May 28, 2026; approved status changes for social workers Christian Guerin and Hannah Husom to regular full-time status effective June 2, 2026; accepted the resignation of Assistant County Attorney I Marin Kolstad effective June 4, 2026; and approved a temporary unpaid 4‑H/University of Minnesota summer coordinator position for Kelly Lillyblad. The consent agenda also authorized several utility permits for companies including East Central Energy, Connexus Energy, CenterPoint Energy and Midcontinent Communications, and approved claims and warrants totaling $279,796.04. Commissioner Berg moved approval of the consent agenda and Commissioner LaRowe seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Health and Human Services consent items were approved as well: contract amendments designating Isanti County Health and Human Services as fiscal host for Region 7E AMHI with Mille Lacs County Community and Veterans Services and with Pine County Health and Human Services were both approved on a motion by Commissioner Berg seconded by Commissioner Westerberg.
Sheriff Wayne Seiberlich presided over the swearing-in of Deputy Simcha Gavzy and presented Citizen Lifesaving Recognition awards during the meeting; no recipients' names were recorded in the minutes.
The board also approved annual township liquor license renewals for businesses seeking 2026–2027 licenses. The meeting concluded with a motion by Commissioner Christensen, seconded by Commissioner LaRowe, to adjourn at 10:49 a.m.
