Grant County awards graveling contract, sets new bridge easement acquisition rates

Grant County commissioners voted May 20 to award Project No. 2026-03 (2026 Graveling) to contractor Wm. D. Scepaniak after Harris Construction requested to withdraw its previously low bid.
John Sauber of Sauber Engineering, Inc. presented bid materials and discussed alternatives; the board approved Harris Construction’s withdrawal (motion by Marty Meyer, seconded by Al Roy Hochhalter) and then voted to award the contract to Wm. D. Scepaniak (motion by Meyer, seconded by Hochhalter). All roll call votes were recorded as aye.
Later in the meeting, the board approved an adjustment to easement and right-of-way acquisition rates to reflect irrigatable land values for bridge projects. The board set irrigatable land at $6,400 per acre, cropland at $2,200 per acre, non-cropland at $1,600 per acre, and temporary easement at $220 per acre; that motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners asked staff to prepare documents showing changes in true and full value for presentation to the County Board of Equalization; those documents are due by the close of business on May 26 so they can be considered at the BOE meeting on June 3.
Both the contract award and the easement-rate changes were approved by unanimous roll call votes at the May 20 session.
