The manager of the Cheyenne Workforce Center summarized success stories and employer engagement strategies and described operational challenges and staffing progress.
Manager Andreel (Jerel) Cook highlighted two client success stories: an adult participant who overcame domestic violence and is enrolled in a speech‑therapy assistant program with DWS support, and a youth participant who completed adult basic education, earned CNA certification and gained full‑time employment while pursuing long‑term goals in mental‑health care.
Cook described employer engagement efforts including a novel partnership with a local tattoo parlor to create a job‑shadowing opportunity for youth, collaboration with Patriot Diesel to host work experiences, and Workforce Wednesdays, a monthly mini career‑fair series that has increased employer participation. He said the center has also run larger career fairs with local college partners.
On staffing, Cook said the Cheyenne center has 13 staff (14 with the manager) and was fully staffed since July after a period of hiring; several hires were recent and retention and training are a focus. Case‑load expectations cited: WA youth caseloads around 20–25 per case manager and Power program caseloads around 40, though Cook noted seasonal and programmatic variation.
Council members asked about staff retention, case loads and SNAP work‑requirement coordination; staff said they are meeting with Department of Family Services to coordinate and plan for any SNAP changes and are prioritizing coaching, mock interviews and employer readiness.
