Residents used the public‑comment period on May 12 to raise several neighborhood concerns and requests for city follow‑up. Jose Correa asked the council to address potholes and a persistent water issue on Las Vecenas Drive that has caused algae and grass growth in the street; he brought photos for staff review. City staff (engineering) said the street is on the pavement management list and staff will take a closer look.
Resident Manuel Maldonado said Nelson at Hacienda Boulevard was unexpectedly closed (reported near Maypop) and said advance notice should be posted when neighboring jurisdictions or contractors close streets because the closure disrupted traffic near La Puente High School. Maldonado also reported a catalytic converter theft from a family member's vehicle that cost nearly $3,000 to replace and urged increased police presence in areas with recent theft and vandalism. He also announced the recent death of Hermelinda Marquez, a longtime local advocate, and asked the city to post a marquee remembrance.
On consent and procedure, the council approved the minutes of the prior City Council and Successor Agency meeting following a motion (recorded in the minutes as a motion from "Valerie" with a second from "Nadia"). The minutes were approved by roll call: Mayor: yes; Mayor Pro Tem Munoz: yes; Councilmember Mendoza: yes; Councilmember Quinones: yes. The council then approved consent calendar items D1–D4 by unanimous roll call.
City staff said they will follow up on the street repair requests and will contact Mr. Maldonado about the closure and potential inter‑jurisdictional coordination. The council did not direct any new budget allocations or order increased patrol levels at this meeting; residents were encouraged to report theft incidents to the Sheriff's Office for investigation.
