Elkhart parks board tables Michigan Pro Shop permit, approves Night Out and Pumpkin Vine ride permits

The Elkhart City Parks & Recreation Board on June 16 tabled a use permit for Michigan Pro Shop and approved two event permits: Night Out and the Pumpkin Vine Classic bike ride.
Staff told the board that Michigan Pro Shop had not responded to requests for permit information or proof of liability insurance over several months. The board voted to table the permit indefinitely and instructed that the applicant would need to reapply if it wants to pursue the event in the future.
Brian Aedan, office manager, described Night Out — an annual community police event — and said the application included the required information; the board approved the Night Out permit unanimously. Staff said Night Out will move this year from the downtown plaza to Studebaker Park.
On the Pumpkin Vine Classic bike ride, staff described a plan to route riders through the River Greenway Trail into Studebaker Park, use the Studebaker pavilion as a stopover, and then continue south on the road. Staff said the event date was September 12 (given from memory) and noted uncertainty about the Studebaker restroom availability; if restrooms cannot be opened, organizers will provide portable toilets. The board approved the Pumpkin Vine permit unanimously.
Motions on these permit items passed with unanimous votes by the three board members present.
