The Elkhart City Parks & Recreation Board on June 16 accepted sponsor and grant support and approved a contract extension for park advertising.
Board members unanimously approved acceptance of a $5,000 donation from engineering firm DLZ to sponsor the city’s Independence Day celebration and separately approved a $5,000 environmental action grant to NIPCO. The board confirmed that grant approvals require a separate motion, which was taken and carried unanimously.
Jennifer Kobe, marketing for the parks department, told the board the department has the opportunity to extend five previously approved Lamar billboards. “We have the opportunity to extend five of the billboards that you approved previously,” Kobe said, and board members said they had received public feedback indicating they had seen the ads in town. The board moved to approve the contract extension and the motion carried unanimously.
The board also corrected an earlier oversight by formally voting to accept the DLZ donation after the billboard motion had been completed.
No members of the public spoke on the donations or the billboard contract during the meeting. The board’s next regular meeting will follow the posted schedule.
