Brandon council approves medical-cannabis insurance change, routine permits, bids and pay apps

On procurement and projects, the council accepted a low bid from Siteworks for the Ironwood extension (approximately $1.17 million) and authorized contract award; the contractor indicated work could begin within a week. The council approved Pay Application #1 ($97,993) and #2 ($151,993) for the Pioneer Lift Station project, and approved routine water and sewer pay applications.
In property matters the council rejected a single $10,000 bid for the convention-center-attached building in the Brickman's tract, directing staff to pursue a commercial appraisal and to explore a short-term lease with the Holiday Inn. Council members said the lone bid was far below market expectations and recommended rejecting it. Separately, staff reported ongoing negotiations with Western Hills LLC on a TIF amendment related to the planned roundabout and noted a jurisdiction-transfer agreement with Minnehaha County for the portion of West Holly Boulevard near the roundabout is under review.
