Mono County jail project 40% complete by schedule; $6.5 million in eligible expenses submitted

By the contractor’s schedule the project is about 40% complete by calendar time; Dodd estimated roughly 25% of field work and materials are complete and said some invoices (for May) were still pending, explaining a temporary lag tied to winter slow-down and billing cycles.
The county remains on track for a projected summer 2027 completion, Dodd said; change orders have been split to expedite electrical work that needed to occur before concrete placement, and one change order that deletes a climbing-mesh item is expected to produce an overall credit of roughly $10,000.
On-site work has included installation of the underslab gravel and vapor barrier and completion of a masonry mock-up wall for quality inspection. Procurement of FF&E (fixtures, furnishings, equipment) is underway; IT and radio compatibility review is ongoing to ensure future dispatch compatibility.
Community engagement and operations: Dodd and supervisors summarized a recent community meeting; attendees asked about construction hours, traffic impacts, and how transit and bus stops will work for people released from custody. Dodd said site circulation is designed as a loop to allow efficient vehicle movement and that the county is coordinating with transit providers, the sheriff’s office, probation and other partners on release accommodations.
