County to hold June 3 wildfire recovery meeting as RV‑use urgency ordinance approaches sunset

The Planning Department told commissioners that a public wildfire recovery meeting will be held on June 3, 2026, at the American Legion Hall in Greenville to discuss long‑term recovery priorities and the impending sunset of an emergency urgency ordinance.

Staff explained the urgency ordinance — adopted after the Dixie Fire — temporarily allowed year‑round habitation of recreation vehicles for displaced persons, and it has been extended repeatedly but is scheduled to sunset on June 30, 2026. The planning director described two primary pathways after sunset: allowed occupancy tied to an issued building permit (where extensions or building‑official discretion can apply) or relocation of RV occupants to RV parks licensed by HCD. Staff said the county will provide information and supportive services to people still living in RVs and that the building official (Michael Coelho) and the chief code enforcement officer (Jennifer Langston) will attend the Greenville meeting.

Commissioners asked about timelines and permit extensions. Staff noted that building‑permit extensions are a discretionary area for the building official and that some amendments and clarifications to the code are under consideration. The department said it will coordinate with recovery coordinator Kaylee Ward and will bring a staff report and public comment to the Board of Supervisors in June.
