The La Puente City Council voted on Jan. 27 to adopt a resolution resolving a discrepancy between the municipal code and an earlier council resolution that conflicted over the city manager's spending authority.
City staff reported that the municipal code currently reflects a $25,000 signing authority while a previously adopted resolution set the authority at $20,000. The staff report presented two options: either adopt a resolution to conform authority to $25,000 or direct staff to amend the procurement policy by ordinance.
A council member moved to adopt the resolution (rescinding resolution 185407 and adopting resolution 255971) to establish the city manager's spending authority at $25,000; the motion was seconded. The recorded roll-call/comments in the transcript show the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and Councilmember Quiniones voting yes and the motion passing.
Council staff said the city manager had been operating under the $20,000 signing authority but that reconciling the municipal code and resolution would align the code with prior council direction. There was no fiscal impact identified in the staff report, and council did not request further study before adopting the resolution.
The resolution passed during the meeting; council moved on to subsequent agenda items.
