City staff presented the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for fiscal year 2026-27 and said La Puente was allocated $231,677, a reduction from the prior year. Staff outlined the recommended allocations: $34,782 for senior-center public services, $115,000 for a housing rehabilitation program, and $81,895 for code enforcement. Staff also stated an unprogrammed fund of $138,105 will be combined with the code-enforcement allocation for a $220,000 total for enforcement-related activity.
The council opened the required public hearing (staff said notices were posted on December 18 in accordance with municipal code and HUD rules), received no public speakers, and closed the hearing. A motion to adopt the resolution approving the city's CDBG program for FY 2026-27 was made, seconded and approved by roll-call vote. City staff framed the funding as focused on activities that benefit low- and moderate-income persons, noting that at least 70% of program funds are intended for that purpose.
Staff recommended filing the resolution with the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) by the required February deadline. Council voted to adopt Resolution No. 26-5964 as recommended by staff; the staff report said adoption is required each year to continue participating in the county CDBG allocation process.
Next steps include staff submittal of the adopted resolution to LACDA and continuation of program planning and contracting for the listed project allocations.
