Residents urge volunteer support for Denton Daze and press for building and park maintenance

Gail Braunsroth asked for volunteers to support Denton Daze, scheduled for June 20. Missy Cherry encouraged residents to join trash cleanup and to remove volunteer trees from public plantings. Julie Stovall volunteered to serve on a playground committee and said she had not yet been contacted to attend committee meetings.
Resident Bill Edwards thanked the board for its service but raised specific concerns about the community center’s exterior, citing a mudhole at the entrance, a remaining tree stump and volunteer trees growing in the landscaping. Trustee Amanda Fangmeier said she has helped by pulling weeds and Trustee Doug Rosekrans asked Edwards to provide a written list of concerns for the board to review.
Resident Lona Anderson asked about flushing fire hydrants; Ross Blackledge responded that dead-end hydrants were flushed last fall. Plant Nebraska plans a volunteer planting at 9:30 a.m. on May 12 and staff asked for volunteers to assist.
The board did not take formal action on these public comments at the May 4 meeting beyond requesting follow-up and, in one case, a written list of maintenance items for consideration.
