Mariposa County district attorney Walter Wall to step down June 30

Walter Wall, Mariposa County's district attorney, told the Board of Supervisors on June 2 that he will resign effective June 30, 2026.
"I came here today with one purpose ... to tender my resignation as a district attorney effective 06/30/2026," Wall said in a prepared statement, thanking his office staff and justice partners for their work during his tenure.
Wall said he returned to the office in August 2025 to rebuild the office and that it is now "strong and professional." He said he did not seek to leave Mariposa County and that he and his family will continue to live and be active in the community.
On succession, Wall told the board he had spoken with Assistant District Attorney Jared Egan and that, "by operation of law, he will become the interim district attorney." He said Egan had indicated his willingness to serve in that capacity.
Wall thanked victims' advocates, the sheriff's office, probation, the courts and county departments, and said his decision followed "considerable reflection" about where he can best continue public service.
The announcement was delivered as part of the departmental presentations; no board action was recorded at the meeting on the resignation itself.
