The Crawford City Council approved a $5,000 Keno fund donation on Jan. 14 to support the Crawford Serving Humanities Committee’s effort to bring the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (Vietnam Wall and Cost of Freedom) to Crawford in September 2026.
Roger Campbell told the council the tribute’s projected cost is $25,000 and organizers expect between 4,500 and 7,000 visitors from within a roughly 250‑mile radius, which organizers said would provide a tourism and economic boost to local businesses. Campbell said the committee has a $1,400 commitment from a local business and planned outreach to the Bank, the Sioux County Foundation, the Coffee Family Foundation and Dawes County Tourism; donations would be funneled through American Legion Post #138.
Council Member Scott DeBock moved to approve the $5,000 Keno request; Brent Gebbie seconded the motion. The motion passed with recorded ayes from DeBock, Gebbie, April Grant and Christopher Dean. No nays were recorded.
Organizers said they plan to locate the display at the ball field to take advantage of parking and lighting; council did not take further budgetary action beyond approving the Keno request.
