Council approves liens for unpaid code citations, grants one property 60 days to remediate

Property owner William Gevurn explained that he had recently inherited one parcel after his mother's death, said he was actively cleaning the site, and asked for time and leniency; he stated he had only been living in the house a short time and was hauling debris to the dump (William Gevurn). Council expressed sympathy but also the need to ensure remediation; members agreed to continue one parcel for 60 days, waive a $100 fee conditionally, and proceed with liens on the remaining parcels and assessments for city remediation where already performed.
Council voted to approve liens on the identified parcels (listed during the hearing) and to delay enforcement for the parcel associated with Gevurn for 60 days with the expectation of abatement and photo documentation. Staff noted continuation would delay placement on the current tax roll and that the city could resume proceedings if the nuisance is not abated within the agreed timeline.
The action directed staff to document current conditions with photographs, coordinate with the new occupant/owner on expectations for abatement, and return to council if the conditions are not corrected.
