Sheriff reports large illegal-grow seizures, says coordinated enforcement and outreach will continue

Sheriff Jeremy Breeze reported to the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors on June 9 that his office has been increasing enforcement in town-proper areas and targeting transient-related crime and illicit grows.
"That was about 2,167 plants," Breeze said, referring to a recent illegal marijuana grow operation in the Hirsch Road area; he added a separate North County operation removed about 1,006 plants along with multiple firearms and a small amount of methamphetamine. Breeze described multi-agency coordination with probation, county teams and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Breeze said the sheriff’s office will continue a proactive enforcement posture while seeking to pair enforcement with outreach and services: "...hopefully teaming up with health and human services also to allow any type of resources available to anybody, to combat addiction, combat homelessness..." He framed the work as community-wide and emphasized partnerships with probation and other cooperators.
Why it matters: Large-scale illegal grows can pose public-safety, environmental and criminal-justice risks; seizures of weapons and controlled substances accompany those operations in this case. Breeze’s description signals continued enforcement activity and coordination between law enforcement and social-service partners.
The board asked for follow-up on coordinates and specifics for one seizure the supervisors had been asked about; Breeze said he would check the records and report back.
