Council adopts zoning-code amendments; public hearing held on Glenn property rezoning

The Huntsville City Council unanimously adopted an amendment to the city’s zoning code and heard a public hearing on a separate rezoning request for the Dwayne Devon Glenn properties.
By roll-call vote the council approved Ordinance proposed 2024‑5, amending Title 14 (C1 and C2 zones) of the Huntsville zoning code. The roll call recorded yes votes from Counselor O, Lacy, Thas, Evans, Rhoden, Myer, Ellis and Ford (8–0), after the ordinance was placed on its third reading and motioned for approval.
Earlier in the meeting the mayor opened a public hearing on a rezoning application affecting the Dwayne Devon Glenn properties along Highway 412. The administration described most of the parcel as currently zoned I2 and proposed rezoning most of it to I1 with a small portion to R1. The mayor thanked the Planning Commission for meeting with the applicants and noted the Planning Commission will vote first; council members will act after planning returns the item for council consideration.
What’s next: The Planning Commission will take its vote and, if it approves, the zoning change will be returned to council for final action consistent with the standard three‑stage process discussed in the hearing.
