The two bids were separated by roughly $600; the mayor said ACS’s design included a larger concrete apron, American-made fixtures and interchangeability that can allow future upgrades.
Rob Green told the council he had studied the park site and proposed an aesthetic design that he said better reflects Madison County. A parks commissioner who spoke in the meeting emphasized ADA compliance as critical for future grant eligibility, saying features that permit wheelchair users to access play elements had produced strong emotional responses among families at other sites.
Council approved the selection by voice vote. The mayor said construction would take about 12 weeks and ACS has proposed a ribbon‑cutting in 2025. The mayor also asked city crews to consider donating rock material to help with site landscaping to reduce project costs.
What’s next: Staff will finalize the contract with ACS and coordinate site preparation and a construction schedule; council discussed potential opportunities to have city staff perform some work to lower overall project cost.
