Covington council delays decision on three-way stop at Main and Bridge Streets; second reading set for May 19

Covington Village Council discussed a resident request to make the corner of Main and Bridge Streets a three-way stop but postponed final action until Police Chief Tim Cline can provide input.
Village Administrator Jordan Hodges explained that residents had raised concerns and asked the council to consider changing the intersection to a three-way stop. Council Member Martin Leistner recommended waiting for Chief Cline to attend a meeting and provide traffic-safety information and enforcement perspective. The council set a second reading for Ordinance 05-25 on May 19, 2025.
No formal vote was taken on Ordinance 05-25 at the May 5 meeting. Hodges also noted ongoing work on Bridge Street (grading of gravel) and that staff planned a meeting the next day to discuss paving.
The council will revisit the proposed traffic change at the May 19 meeting when the police chief is expected to be present or when the council has the chief’s input.
