Members of the Harford County Commission on Veterans’ Affairs on June 6 reviewed a slate of summer events and called for volunteers to staff parades, information tables and resource activities across the county.
Chairman Bob Brown reminded members that the July 4 Veterans March in Bel Air will now meet at 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 39 and noted opportunities to walk or ride in military vehicles. The commission also confirmed a Freedom Truck visit scheduled July 8–9 at the Havre de Grace Star Center and an Aberdeen America 250 Celebration on June 27 with a 0.8-mile veterans march into Festival Park; fireworks are postponed until fall.
Jay Ellenby and Jim Ports reported that planning for the July 30 Veterans Resource Fair is on track: 17 vendors have confirmed so far out of 44 solicited, organizers plan a June 24 planning session, and vendor waitlists will be used for those who did not participate last year. Several events asked members to staff information tables or provide short volunteer shifts; the minutes record specific requests for assistance at the Resource Fair, the Freedom Truck visit, the July 4 march and an Adaptive Sports Clinic on Aug. 15 (limited to about 10 veterans and 10 children).
The commission encouraged members to coordinate volunteer sign-ups and to pass details to Community Relations for broader outreach. No formal votes were taken on event staffing at the meeting.
