Representatives from the Friends of the Myrietta Library presented a $120,000 contribution to the city during the June 16 council meeting to furnish the new children’s reading room and support programming. The volunteer group also approved additional funding of $65,500 for fiscal year 2026–27 to support programs and collections.
A volunteer who spoke on behalf of the Friends described the contribution as the result of ongoing bookstore sales and local donations and urged residents to support the two used-book stores that help fund the library’s work. "It is through the dedication and hard work of the wonderful store volunteers ... that we're able to provide this check," the representative said.
City staff noted the children’s-room construction requires replacement of floors and some concrete work. Staff told the council the library will temporarily close starting July 19 to complete the most disruptive work and expects to reopen by August 3; staff said they will communicate details to patrons and try to minimize program disruption.
Council members and staff took photos with ambassadors and Friends representatives following the presentation. The council approved the consent calendar (which included contract amendments for library construction work) unanimously.
