St. Paul council recognizes police chief, hears utility and police updates and schedules senior-center discussion

During the May 5 City Council meeting, Brad Jacobs of Jacobs Ford presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Chief of Police Dan Howard for the department’s assistance in a major fraudulent incident affecting the Jacobs business. Jacobs publicly thanked the mayor and council for their work on behalf of the community.
Utilities Superintendent Helzer reported that an airman compressor was retrieved from Construction Rental G.I. in Grand Island and that the city swimming pool will be filled next week. Chief Dan Howard said he and Sergeant Jon Howard will attend a memorial service for a Ceresco police officer; the chief also noted Officer Sample’s workers’ compensation doctor note.
Council President Katie Kowalski announced the first IBEW 1597 union meeting scheduled for June 3, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers and tabled the 1st-of-the-month nuisance item until the May 19 meeting. Resident Melvin Fuller asked when the St. Paul Senior Center “Meals on Wheels” item would be discussed; Kowalski said it is scheduled for the May 19 agenda.
Council President Kowalski adjourned the meeting at 6:54 p.m.
