Highway staff report salt dome finished, pit readiness, bridge applications and structure closures

County highway staff reported completion of a salt dome replacement (reimbursement pending), readiness at Richards Pit after line-power conversion, submission of bridge/ARIP applications, and consultant-identified critical structures including a closed Eagle Road span in Mecan.
County highway staff updated the committee Jan. 20 on construction, maintenance and operations. Brian Trebiatowski said the salt dome replacement project is complete after delays with overhead doors and electrical work; the department is processing reimbursement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Staff reported the line power transition at Richards Pit was completed in late December and that materials for 2026 production are on site, though additional aggregate will be needed to balance sand piles for 2027 production. Trebiatowski said the CTH E STP Rural project is in right-of-way negotiations with a landowner and is scheduled for the March 10 state letting.
The department submitted a County Highway O application to DOT for the 2026–2030 cycle and filed two ARIP applications: one for County Road A (State Highway 23 to County Road D, including County Road P to Adams Line) and a second for Town of Mecan Eagle Road 6-20 structure (closed in October). Award announcements are anticipated in April.
The WTA consultant inspection identified four 6-20 structures in critical condition: one in Mecan (Eagle Road) closed, one in Newton (Duck Creek Lane) closed after posting, Dakota Ave in Newton posted 5 tons, and a Crystal Lake structure posted 20 tons. Trebiatowski said remaining eligible structures may be replaced through ARIP.
Staff also briefed the committee on facilities planning for the Westfield Shop (insulation, floor drain, concrete repairs and possible fuel upgrades), equipment updates (Truck #009 to be relisted after failing to meet reserve at auction; two quads delayed until April/May 2026), fuel sales/prices and apprenticeship staffing (three CESA apprentices assisting with welding and maintenance).
