Marquette County staff report project progress; four town bridge structures flagged for replacement

Highway staff reported a series of project updates and infrastructure concerns at the Nov. 18 Marquette County Highway Committee meeting, including completion of salt dome exterior work, Richards Pit winter shutdown preparations, near‑complete right‑of‑way acquisition for the CTH E STP rural project, and identification of four town structures that will require replacement under the ARIP program.
Brian Trebiatowski, highway department staff, said overhead doors and paving at the county’s new salt dome are finished and brine tanks were scheduled for delivery the same day, though a service door and remaining punch‑list items are outstanding. He also reported that line power installation at Richards Pit will be finished that week and that the plant is shut down for the season with maintenance planned during winter and spring.
On CTH E (STP Rural), Trebiatowski said right‑of‑way acquisition is nearly complete with one parcel remaining and the project remains on schedule for 2026. The County Highway O bridge application was completed and submitted to the state Department of Transportation for the 2026–2030 funding cycle.
Inspections of 6‑20 town structures flagged four critical replacements: one structure in Mecan is closed; two structures in Newton are posted with 5‑ton weight limits; and one structure in Crystal Lake is posted with a 20‑ton limit. Trebiatowski said replacement for these structures is covered under the ARIP program, and staff noted a Dec. 15 deadline to file under that program and limited information currently available about replacement options and the new program’s specifics.
Other business: staff noted all town paving projects are completed and shouldered; small brushing jobs and an interdepartmental Human Services driveway repair have been finished for the year. A surplus tri‑axle truck will be listed on the Integrity Auction in early December as the department tests a different auction vendor. Personnel updates included one accepted job offer, one declined, and an upcoming interview.
The committee received the updates and adjourned at 9:21 a.m.
