Marquette County to seek new signage, speed studies and outreach on buggy lighting

The official also relayed a request to post 'No Truck Traffic' signs on STH 22 east of Park Street to warn drivers about the bridge's 5‑ton weight limit and advised that the City of Montello should contact the Marquette County Highway Department to arrange posting.
Staff reported the county's speed trailer is used regularly and that generated reports can be requested by local officials. The official also listed holiday parade dates — Nov. 29 in Westfield, Dec. 5 in Montello and Dec. 6 in Oxford — and said Public Works departments in those communities will assist with barricades.
Separately, staff said Marquette County is pursuing an ordinance addressing noncompliance by some animal‑drawn vehicles lacking proper lighting. The county noted that different Amish sects live in the area and that most comply with lighting recommendations, but that a subset near Westfield does not consistently use flashing amber lights or orange triangles; staff said they will continue to work with the community toward a resolution.
The committee did not record a formal vote on the signage requests or the ordinance discussion during this update; staff described next steps as conducting the required speed study and pursuing outreach and ordinance drafting as appropriate.
