Portola Valley posts draft safety element for public comment through June; staff urges written input

The Portola Valley Planning Director updated commissioners on June 17 that the town's draft Safety Element is out for public review from May 29 through June 30 and described next steps for revision and adoption.
Planning Director Sarah said the draft is available through the town's Safety Element website and that the online form accepts written comments and PDF uploads; residents may also submit comments in person at Town Hall or by email. Staff will consolidate comments, consult with relevant town committees as needed, revise the draft, then return it to the planning commission and town council for study sessions before circulating it for external agency review ahead of formal adoption.
Commissioners requested more transparent posting of incoming comments during the review period so the public could see submissions as they accumulate; staff said the town will explore more frequent posting, possibly weekly, and confirmed a letter submitted that morning from Patty Du's, Karen Asi and John Meyers was posted to the planning commission website.
A resident speaker, Christie, asked why letters mentioned in earlier joint sessions had not been visible; staff replied that comments received during the public review are part of the record and will be made available in sequence as staff compiles and posts them.
Staff encouraged written comments by the June 30 deadline to ensure they are considered in the next draft revision.
